Role and contribution:

  • The scientific coordination of the Egyptian contribution in the project will be carried out by both Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zaghawa and Prof. Dr. Hany Youssef Hassan.

  • Collection of epidemiological baseline data.

  • Standardization of sampling and diagnostic tools.

  • KAP surveys

  • Molecular epidemiology of rabies isolates


Qualifications and experience:

The department of animal medicine and infectious diseases deals with the clinical aspects of animal diseases causing nervous manifestations in different animals species. The geographical location of the faculty of veterinary medicine with the presence of the mobile clinic help in detection of clinical animals rabies suspected cases. Beside the department is provided by a diagnostic lab. The animal health research institute is involved officially in rabies diagnosis in animals and assessment of the immune response of vaccinated animals. The central diagnostic laboratory of the Ministry of Health is responsible for rabies diagnosis in human.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zaghawa, the contact manager is epidemiologist, virologist, with experience in the molecular Epidemiology (see C.V. attached). Prof. Dr. Hany Youssef Hassan: Professor of animal medicine at faculty of Veterinary Medicine and involved in the group of diseases characterized by nervous manifestations in different animal species. He has a clinical experience and experience in the immunity, and clinical pathology. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Aggag: Head department of virology Animal Health Research Institute, Dokki, Cairo, Egypt. He is the person in charge for the process of rabies diagnosis in animals in Egypt. Dr. Samy Khalil: Assistant Professor of virology, Faculty of Veterinary medicine, Alexandria University. He is involved in the diagnosis of viral diseases of animals beside the recent tools in diagnosis as RT- PCR.
